Mrs. Emma Ries
Mrs. Emma L. Ries, 81, of 1822 Friendship Street, died at Mercy Hospital Thursday after a long illness.
Requiem high mass will be at 9 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in Oakland Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Donohue Mortuary, where frends [sic] may call after p.m. Saturday.
Mrs. Ries was born July 31, 1888, in Newport Township, daughter of John and Mary Wonick Kripner. After graduating from the Iowa City Academy she received a nursing degree at the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago and practiced nursing in Iowa City.
She was married to C. C. Ries on Nov. 9, 1910, at Davenport. A lifelong resident of Johnson County, she was a longtime member of St. Mary's Church and its Altar and Rosary Society.
Surviving are two half-sisters Mrs. Ana Long [Ana sic] and Mrs. Marie Engler, both of Cedar Rapids and several nephews and nieces. Preceding her in death were her husband, a brother and a sister.
