Bernice Margaret Kron, 83, formerly of 3415 Tulane Ct. died Wednesday, August 9th at Iowa City Rehabilitation and Health Care Center surrounded by her children.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 12th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 9:00 am with Reverend Jeff Belger officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 3:30 to 7:00 pm, with a parish rosary beginning at 3:00 pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Regina Catholic Community Foundation or the Iowa City Parkinson’s Support Group.

Bernice was born March 7, 1923 in Oxford, Iowa, the daughter of James and Winifred (Cooney) Leeney.

Her marriage to Richard Kron on July 16, 1946 at St. Mary’s Church in Iowa City, was the beginning of a union which formed an inseparable bond, lasting for nearly 60 years. Richard passed away in December of 2005. Bernice & Richard are now again, together.

Bernice was raised in Oxford and graduated from Oxford High School. She worked as a sales clerk at Sears & Roebuck for 35 years, retiring in 1987.

A member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Altar & Rosary Society, Bernice loved sewing, quilting, cooking and baking. She was adored by her grandchildren for hosting “tea parties” and for shooting baskets with them. Bernice was a strong and giving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, who strived to always do her best.

Bernice is survived by her daughter, Kathy Lilli of Iowa City; two sons, Ron (Linda) Kron of Iowa City and Tom (Carla) Kron of Sandy Hook, Connecticut

seven great grandchildren Anna, Ian, Samantha, Noah, Aubrey, Savannah and Mallory;

sisters, Vivian Hedges of Iowa City, Melva Petrak of Coralville and Marge Thormann of Hobart, Indiana; sister in law, Aileen Kron of Iowa City.

Bernice was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a sister Mary Kallaus.

Bernice’s daughter Kathy would also like to acknowledge the strength, knowledge and generosity learned from their special mother-daughter relationship – for which Kathy is forever grateful.
