Thomas N. Fountain, 71, formerly of the Iowa City area, and a resident of Alamo, Texas died Sunday, August 6, 2006 at the Iowa City Veteran’s Hospital following a brief illness.

Funeral Services will be at 10 am, Friday, August 11, 2006 at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, with Rev. Brian Shepley officiating. A brief graveside service with military rites will be held at York Township Cemetery immediately following. A luncheon will be held at the Iowa City Eagles Lodge following the service at the cemetery. Friends may call Thursday at the funeral home from 4 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.

Tom was born May 26, 1935 in Keswick, Iowa, the son of Howard I. and Ethyle
(Gorman) Fountain. Tom attended City High School and served in the Iowa National Guard. On August 29, 1953 he married Joyce Frei in Iowa City.

For over 12 years, Tom owned and operated “The Chairs and Tables Shop”, an antique store in Coralville.

In the 1960s and 1970s, Tom was an extremely active member of the Iowa City Jaycees, where he held offices both at the local and state levels. Tom was honored as a Junior Chamber International (JCI) Senator (#8565) and also selected as a lifetime member of the Iowa JC Senate (#37).

Tom was a long-time member of the Eagles Lodge (Aerie 695) in Iowa City and was a member of the Iowa City VFW as well. In Texas, Tom was a long-time member of American Legion Post #37 in McAllen. Tom enjoyed sharing stories, telling jokes and playing cards.

Tom is survived by his wife Joyce, 1341 W. US Hwy. 83-527, Alamo, Texas 78516; his daughter, Barbara (Michael) Gericke of Tiffin and their children, John (Jody), Karen, Michelle and Steven; his son, Larry Fountain and his wife Vicki Krotz of Plattsmouth, Nebraska and their children Bethany and Daniel; three great grandchildren Nathan, Abigail and Ceceilia; his mother Ethyle of Iowa City; two brothers, Pat (Barb) Fountain of Mt. Pleasant, Mike (Cathy) Fountain of Iowa City; three sisters, Charlene (Al) Rozinek of West Branch, Glennys O’Brien of Juneau, Alaska, and Phyllis (Steve) Black of Iowa City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his father, a sister, Marlene Teymer and a nephew
Kevin O’Brien.
