Joanna “Jo” Milder, 79, of 800 South Gilbert Court in Iowa City, died Sunday at her home after a courageous 9 year battle with cancer. She was supported and comforted by her loving family during her last days.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall with Reverend Kenneth Kuntz officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Lensing’s Oak Hill in Coralville.
A parish rosary will be held at 7:30 pm. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Iowa City Hospice or the St. Patrick Church Rebuilding Fund.

Jo was born February 23, 1927 in Jackson County, Missouri, the daughter of George & Ruth (Webb) Frazier.
She lived in Kansas City where she met Bernard Milder, who was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas at the time. They were married on October 7, 1944 and moved to Iowa afterwards. The couple lived in Iowa City and later in Columbus Junction. In 1959 the couple moved back to Iowa City where they have lived ever since. Jo worked as a custodian for the University of Iowa Residence Services, retiring in 1989. After retiring Jo was able to get her high school diploma at the age of 63. It was an achievement that was very important to her. She was a faithful member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for the past 47 years. Jo was an avid reader of mystery novels, and also enjoyed crocheting. She created many unique gifts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jo is survived by her husband Bernard of Iowa City;
her children,
Michael Milder (Linda) of Riverside, Kenneth Milder (Julie) of Hillsboro, Oregon, Joseph Milder (Tina) of Williamsburg, Ben Milder (Pam) of Iowa City, Stephen Milder (Marsha) of Maynard, Lawrence Milder (Cheryl) of Blue Grass, James Milder of Iowa City and Barbara Goodwin (Robert) of North Liberty;

20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren;
a brother, Robert Frazier of Kansas City, Missouri;
two sisters, Judith Logiudice (Sam) of Grandview, Missouri and Imogene Myers of Belton, Missouri;
a sister in law, Emiko Frazier of Chester, Virginia;
several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Paul and an infant brother, two infant sisters, a sister Marilyn Darrah and a grandchild, Brian Micheal.
