Leonard W. “Bud” Gough, 88, of 3300 Heartland Dr., Coralville, longtime Clear Creek Township farmer, died Saturday, June 17, 2006 at his home surrounded by his family.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at St. Mary’s Church with Father Ken Kuntz officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the church hall. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 20 at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a Parish Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Catholic Community Foundation for Regina or Iowa City Hospice.
Bud was born August 15, 1917 in Johnson County, near Oakdale, the son of Philip and Anna Feldman Gough. A lifelong resident of Clear Creek Township and a 1935 graduate of St. Mary’s High School.
Bud married Margaret “Marge” Weepie April 26, 1950 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Independence, Iowa. Bud farmed and raised registered Black Angus cattle. For twelve years he was a substitute mail carrier for the US Postal Service. Bud owned and operated Gough Feed Service for 25 years, retiring in 1991. Following retirement, he and his wife Marge were greeters at Lensing Funeral Service.
Bud was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a third degree member of Knights of Columbus Marquette Council 842.
Bud was a strong supporter of Regina High School, especially in the early years of its inception.He enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and poker, and followed his favorite team, the St. Louis Cardinals. Bud had a strong work ethic and was a good husband and a caring father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Marge; three daughters, Kathleen (Walt) Williams of Wilton, Iowa; Jane (Don) Frantz and their daughter, Jeanna of Coralville, Iowa; and Mary Frances Gough of Tomball, Texas; his sister, Dorothy Ellison of Solon, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lawrence and his sister Geneva Dee.
