William M. Kinnamon, 93, of Iowa City and a resident of Parkview Manor, Wellman, died Monday, May 8, 2006, at Mercy Hospital following a brief illness.
Family Graveside Service will be held Thursday at Oakland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospital Foundation or Reflections/ Parkview Manor, Wellman. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.
Bill was born November 6, 1912, in Dayton, Iowa, the son of Mac A. and Edith R. Lyman Kinnamon. He was raised in Brooklyn, Iowa, where he graduated from high school and had been active in sports. Bill attended Iowa State University
Bill joined the Civil Conservation Corps, where he worked prior to joining and serving in the US Navy as a naval officer during World War II. Following his military service he joined his father in business in Cresco, Iowa, where they operated a service station and automobile dealership.
Bill married Lucille B. Johnson on January 25, 1937, in Waukon, Iowa.
Bill went on to a lifetime career as a quality control inspector for the Army Material Command. Upon retirement at age 62, Bill and Lucille moved to Iowa City from Joliet, Illinois, where Bill enjoyed 31 years of retirement.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff and residents at Walden Place and Reflections/ Parkview Manor in Wellman for the excellent care and support they gave to Bill in his final years.
Bill is survived by his three children, Jerald W. Kinnamon and his life partner, Sondra B. Kaska, Jon M. Kinnamon, and Judith A. Kinnamon, all of Iowa City; his sister, Edith K. Anderson of Rochester, Minnesota; his sister-in-law, Ruthe Kinnamon of Paso Robles, California; and his niece, Katherine A. Sewell of Edina, Minnesota.
Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille B.; his son, James C.; and two brothers, Lawrence L. and George L.
