A funeral Mass was said Thursday morning in St. James Church here for Dr. Edward C. Vogt, 88, former director of the X-ray department of the Children's Hospital in Boston. He was a resident of New Bedford and died Tuesday in the Jewish Convalescent Home, New Bedford, after a short illness.
Dr. Vogt was born in Iowa City, Iowa, and graduated from the University of Iowa and the University of Iowa Medical School. He served his internship in St. Vincent's Hospital, Toledo, Ohio, and his residency at the Children's Hospital in Boston beginning in 1928. After heading that hospital's X-ray department, in 1939 he transferred to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, where he headed the radiology department. He retired in 1965.
He was a member of the Massachusetts Medical Society and the American Medical Assn.
Dr. Vogt leaves two sons, James C. of Needham and Dr. Karl E. of Bowling Green, Ohio; a daughter, Marietta Crosby of New Bedford, and eight grandchildren.
Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery, New Bedford.
