Burial will be Friday morning at 9:00 am at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City.
Memorials may be directed to a fund to be established for Rick’s daughter’s college education.

Rick was born April 2, 1952 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Dan E. & Doris (McCann) Taylor. While growing up, he lived in Marion and graduated from Marion High School in 1970. Moving to Iowa City in 1974, Rick married Pauline Tanney on November 7, 1982.

Rick was a proud member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 125 of Cedar Rapids for 27 years – working for various union plumbing companies. He was a strong believer in the strength of organized labor and was the major factor in the successful SEIU campaign to organize P & S staff at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics. He was also proud to be a Democrat. Despite many health problems, he always found the time and energy to do whatever was necessary for Democratic candidates to win.

In January of 2003, Rick was appointed by Gov. Vilsack as an Honorary Colonel of the Iowa National Guard.

Survivors include his wife of 24 years Pauline; his daughter Kristine Taylor of Iowa City; his mother, Doris (John) Pierce of Marion; two sisters, Julie (Jim) Cerney of Omaha and Linda (Dwayne) Walker of Billings, Montana; nephews Chris, Matt & James and nieces, Melinda, Trisha, Hillary & Lindsay: brothers in law, William Tanney and David (Karole) Tanney, all of Des Moines.

Rick was preceded in death by his father in 1972 and his father and mother in law.
