Frances Marie Seyb, 89, formerly of Winfield, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at Crestview Nursing and Rehab Center in West Branch following a short illness. For the past 5 years Frances resided at Legacy Pointe Assisted Living in Iowa City.

Frances was born Oct. 10, 1916, near Mt. Union, IA to Horace and Daisy Wickham Stevens. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1934. On March 2, 1945, she married Harold Seyb in Burlington, IA and they farmed near Winfield. Harold died July 21, 1974.

Frances and Harold were long time members of the Canaan Methodist Church prior to transferring their membership to the Winfield United Methodist Church in 1974. Frances taught Sunday School classes for many years, conducted Bible studies and was a member of the Faith Circle. Frances was also active in the Winfield Historical Society, Amitie Club, Crooked Creek Collectors, Sixty Plus, AARP Volunteers and Daughters of Civil War Union Veterans. She was a long time board member for the Winfield Library and Sunrise Terrace Auxiliary. She also enjoyed sewing, reading, playing cards and Scrabble and doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles. She was a world traveler and enjoyed sharing her travel experiences with local clubs and school children.

Survivors include two children, Suzanne Krough and husband, Ed, of Iowa City and John Seyb and wife, Joan, of Flagstaff, AZ; 3 grandchildren, Jennifer Krough Eldred and husband, Mark, of Chicago, Michael Krough of Iowa City and Ashley Purcell of Westminster, CO; brother Bob Stevens of Winfield; sister-in-law Joan Stevens of Mt. Pleasant and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, brother Charles Stevens and sister-in-law Mary Stevens.

Services will be Wednesday, March 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Winfield Methodist Church with burial in Trinity Cemetery. Visitation will be today from 1-7 p.m. with the family meeting friends from 5-7 p.m. at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield. Memorial contributions may be made to the Winfield Methodist Church or the Winfield Library.
