According to actual Civil War burial records for Thomas & Stephen Long; gives thir burials as not "Abingdon:, but the following Iowa Cemeteries.
Company E 17th IOWA VOLUNTEER INFANTRY {Volume 111}
1. Stephen T. age 18, resident of Agency City, nativity Kentucky; enlisted Feb. 28, 1862; mustered April 5, 1862; died Aug. 11, 1862 with burial at {Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk, Iowa.}
Company F, 7th Iowa Volunteer Infantry [Vol. 1]
2. Thomas N. Long age 18, resident Batavia, nativity Kentucky enlisted Feb. 9, 1864; mustered Feb. 24, 1864. Wounded May 15, 1864, Lay's Ferry, Georgia, died of wounds June 3, 1864, Resaca, Georgia. Buried at {National Cemetery, Chattannoga, Tenn. Section K, grave 307.}
Company F 7th Iowa Volunteer Infantry [Vol 1}
3. Esquire T. Long [veteran], age 22, resident of Wapello, nativity Kentucky, enlisted July 11, 1861, Mustered July 24, 1861. Re-enlisted and re-mustered Jan. 5, 1864. Mustered out Aug. 5, 1864.
It maybe that Esquire is the only one of these brothers who are actually buried at Abingdon. The stones at Abingdon are probably memorials to these three brothers.
