Kelley and Verda -- I was able to locate the newspaper article you referenced.
A man named Martin Casady, was arrested in Walnut Township in this County on Monday, the 2d inst., for the murder of one Samuel Carter, a resident also of that township. The circumstances appear to be these:
Samuel Carter and his brother called at the house of Casaday on Christmas evening, and after remaining there some time, the brother left, and the former remained. That night, as appeared by the evidence and by the admissions of the prisoner, the blows were inflicted which caused the death of Carter on New Year's morning. On a post mortem examination by physicians from Brighton it was found that some of the smaller intestines had been ruptured, and other internal injuries inflicted which would have caused death. In other respects the deceased was found to have been in sound health. The parties had been drinking, but it appears that Casaday had previously made threats to kill the deceased, and is regarded by his neighbors as a dangerous man, especially when under the influence of liquor. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the 3d and 4th inst., he received an examination before Esq. Hannewault, and was committed to jail to await a trial at the next term of the District Court. He is a man with a family of several children, but his wife is dead. The deceased has left a wife and children.
