Reply to Gary Wegner,

As Mary indicated, the spellings all appear to be the same name, particularly since most of the immigrants never spokeEnglish ( I know this in the case of Anton). His tombstone spells the name Shelangoski, the 1880 US census lists him as Shillingowski (probably spelled phonetically by the census taker) and an 1886 Rural Directory lists it as Shillingoski.

Anton (my GG) was born in Poland in 1845 and he may have been your GG's brother. He had a daughter b. in 1911 named Agnes.

I'm trying to determine if a group of Poles and Germans immigrated to US, probably in the 1870's and if so, what cities did they come from and how they acquired the land in and around Polishville.

Do you have any info on place of birth or date of entry?
