In Response To: looking for info (Val Allen)

Hello -
I have some information, not much though on the Conner's & Shockley's through my Emry connection.

Richard & Susannah "Susey" (Paxson) Shockley are both buried in the Walnut Creek Friends Cemetery in Jefferson Co., IA.
Richard was born 16 May 1798 in Grayson Co., VA and died 22 Mar 1876 in Pleasant Plain.
Susannah was born 1795 in VA and died 5 Nov 1883 in Pleasant Plain. They were married 30 Apr 1818.
Susannah's parents were John Paxson (b. 12 Sep 1744 in Kingwood, NJ; d. Champaign Co., OH)and Mary (?) who married 24 Sep 1772 in VA.

Katharine Sarah Shockley was born 14 Feb 1819 in Logan Co., OH; died 24 Oct 1897 in Pleasant Plain, IA and buried in Walnut Creek Friends Cemetery in Jefferson Co., IA. She married James (Adcock) Emry 30 Mar 1842 in Jeff. Co., IA. My descendants are from James' brother, Thomas Frazier Emry.

Almeda Shockley was born in 1828 (OH?) and died after 1883 in Spring Bank, Dixon Co., NE. She was first married (date unknown) to John Conner b. 1820; d. 4 Oct 1864 in the Civil War. They were evidently divorced in 1861. I found 3 children buried in Pleasant Plains Friends Cem. in Pleasant Plain, IA. They have no tombstones.
1. Narcissa Conner b. 1845; d. 29 Jun 1845.
2. Mary Conner b. 1849; d. 185?
3. William Conner b. 1851; d. 19 Aug 1852

Almeda then married Alexander Ireland. He was born 12 Jan 1822; d. 13 Apr 1867 and is buried in Walnut Creek Friends Cem. Alexander's first marriage was to Lydia Williams b. 12 Jun 1826; d. 13 Sep 1861 and is also buried in Walnut Creek. Alexander and Lydia had 2 children that are buried in Walnut Creek Cem.: Charles S., d. 30 Mar 1874 (can't read the birth); and William W., b. 22 Oct 1854; d. 29 Dec 1859.

After Alexander died, Almeda married Henry Goodwin on 27 Nov 1873 in Jefferson Co., IA. They must have moved to Nebraska after that.

I hope this all makes sense and I wish I had more to offer. Feel free to contact me anytime.

Debbie Nash
