it bogglesmy mind. Mrs.Willis and 2 children were murdered in Eddyville...bodies dumped along Cedar Creek 13 miles west of Fairfield. When they caught up with Kephart in Missouri he was brought to jail in Fairfield. Gallows were built at the dump off site and there he was hanged, definitely NOT in Fairfield

Do you understand what the Chataugua programs
were? They started in Fairfield in l904 or 05
and were held in Slagle Grove and last one here
was in 1931. Where my husband grew up they had
them much later and the whole farm family camped
that week of programs, going home only to do the
farm chores.It was a fun time for the teenagers.

Slagle Grove later became Chatauqua Park probably about 1906/07. Not sure if Mr. Slagle sold it or donated it away.

My references are "A Fairfield" pub. l962 and the Western Historical book publ l879. There is
a page and 1/2 written about this murder in it.
I believe it, not sure about ancestry.com.
