Ron,

There is a massive amount of Emry material at the Fairfield Public Library, on Ancestry.com, our IaGenWeb/Jefferson county website, and Find/A/Grave.

In short, others have tried to come up with reasons for the name changes, but no one has been able to really document the reasons that it took place.

Travis Adcock Emry Sr. is buried at Walnut Creek Friends Cemetery here in Jefferson county and I have made a memorial for him on Find A Grave (# 32865298) that may provide you with some family information and links to at least some of his descendants that have been located. Not everyone is probably accounted for; the Quaker families were often large and mobile.
