Verda,
Thank you so much for the information. It looks like A.B. was the publisher, not the owner. I also have a copy of the Journal dated Oct. 21, 1912 (3-2) telling about my grandparent's wedding in Chicago and they were indeed childhood friends, which would have to be in Fairfield since that is where my grandfather has always lived.
A.B. was (35) in 1888 when he married my great grandmother (19) and she was born in Trenton, Mo., so I'm thinking maybe the family moved to Fairfield between 1900 from Mo. and 1910 to Chicago, per census records.
I don't have an obituary for A. B., but he died in 1929 and is buried in Troy Cemetery, Troy, Davis, Iowa. I'm wondering if he went to college
at the same time as his younger brother, Gov. B.F. Carroll, or if the article was incorrect. Maybe they meant that the Gov. went to college with Gen. Pershing. Both Gov. Carroll and Gen.Pershing were born in 1860 and attended State Normal School in 1880 - 1882. Gen. Persing left in 1882 to attend West Point and the governor graduated from there in 1884. A.B. was a high school principal in Mo. in 1900, so I guess it could be possible that he was in college at the age of 27 to 29.It would be nice to know for sure. Let me know if you find anything more. Thank you again.
