BATAVIA. Bert C. SUMNER, 88, died at 4 a.m. today at Ottumwa Hospital. A former farmer and carpenter, SUMNER had been a resident of the Batavia community for 60 years.

Born in Mercer Co., Mo., son of Seward and Sara BATES SUMNER; married Dec. 15, 1903, Myrtle GREENLAND who died July 20, 1960. Member Batavia Christian Church.

Survived by one daughter, Mrs. Kermit FORNEY, Batavia; and two foster sons, Paul SCHARTZER, Eldon, and Fred SCHARTZER, El Paso, Texas. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
