C.E. "Ed" NELSON, 83, retired Batavia merchant, died Thurs. 6:10 p.m. at Jefferson Co. Hospital. Had made his home with his son O. B. NELSON, 800 S. Main St., for the past year and a half.... Campbell Funeral Chapel in Batavia. Bur. Batavia Cemetery.

Born in Sweden Jan. 2, 1882, coming to the U.S. at age 7. Spent his early years in Ottumwa where he was active in YMCA athletics. Married Margaret REDMON May 25, 1910; she died in 1963. Operated a grocery store in Batavia for nearly 40 years before retiring in 1946.

He is survived by children: Mrs. William COUNTRYMAN, Albuquerque, N.M.; Mrs. Ted SHIMKUS, Wooster, Mass.; R. Eugene NELSON, Key West, Fla.; Raymond NELSON, Branson, Mo.; and O. B. NELSON, Fairfield; 17 grandchildren, 5 grgrchn, and two brothers, A. V. NELSON, Fairfield, and Lee NELSON, Minneapolis, Minn. One brother preceded him in death.
