H. P. LAUGHLIN'S DEATH.

Harvey P. LAUGHLIN died at his residence near Brookville, December 20th, aged 78 years, 10 months and 14 days. Mr. LAUGHLIN was born in Logan County, Tennessee, February 6th, 1809. When a young man he emigrated to Coles County, Illinois, where he was married, October 21st, 1837 to Miss E. M. NEWMAN, with whom he has lived for over 50 years, the aged couple celebrating their golden wedding but a few months before his death. He came to the territory of Iowa in the fall of 1841, and located on a claim near Brookville, where he has resided ever since. Mr. LAUGHLIN was a quiet, unassuming citizen, and having lived at peace wit all he died without an enemy. He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church, and the faith which had marked and moulded his life served in his death as the hope of immortality.

Note: Buried in Gantz Cemetery. Wife Eliza Mary Katherine NEWMAN died in 1901 and is buried with him.
