Page 3, Column 2DEATH OF AN AGED WOMAN.
Mary E. NEWMAN, widow of the late Harvey P. LAUGHLIN, died at the home of Mrs. Geo. W. BALL, a daughter, just north of this city, Sunday morning. She was born in Knox County, Tenn., September 9th, 1817, removed to Illinois at an early age, and was married in Coles County October 21st, 1837. The family came to this county in 1841 and lived for many years in Locust grove Township west of this city. The husband died in 1887. Seven children survive the parents -- A. W. LAUGHLIN, Odessa, Mo.; William LAUGHLIN, Blackwell, Okla.; T. S. and Floyd LAUGHLIN and Mrs. W. W. WHITAKER, Brookville; Mrs. Geo. W. BALL of this city; and Mrs. J. F. HAYDEN of Selma. Mrs. LAUGHLIN was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church for many years.... Funeral services were held at Olivet church, seven miles west of the city, near her old home yesterday. The services were conducted by Rev. J. F. Magill. The remains were interred in the Moorman cemetery near Brookville.
Note: Burial was in Gantz Cemetery, not Moorman Cemetery.
