Ted Leonard, 81, of Mount Pleasant, died unexpectedly Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at Arbor Court in Mount Pleasant.

The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Carroll Brown officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Forest Home Cemetery in Mount Pleasant.

Visitation will begin after noon Thursday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.

Mr. Leonard was born May 14, 1924, in Ottumwa, the son of Charles E. Sr. and May Alderdice Leonard. He married Patricia Louise Deitch Oct. 24, 1948, in Ottumwa.

He grew up in Ottumwa and graduated from high school there. He attended A.I.B. in Des Moines for two years.

March 7, 1942, Mr. Leonard was inducted into the United States Army. He served four years in the infantry during World War II. He was discharged from military duty Feb. 7, 1946, at Jefferson Barracks, Mo., having obtained the rank of sergeant first class.

The Leonards moved several times in Iowa and Nebraska. They moved to Mount Pleasant in 1961, where they have resided ever since.

Mr. Leonard worked for Production Credit Association (Farm Credit Services) for 31 years. He was the president of the Southeast Iowa Production Credit Association and served on a committee that set the policy for the PCA. He retired in 1983.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he had served on the pastor-parish relations committee, was chairman of the administrative board, served as chairman of the finance committee as well as other church assignments.

He was a member of the Mount Pleasant chamber of commerce and American Legion Post 58. He also served on the board of the Henry County Extension Service. He was an active volunteer in the church food tent at Old Threshers for several years. He also sang in a barbershop quartet and traveled with his wife.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Chris Leonard and wife Sharon of Waterloo, Stephen Leonard of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas, and Joseph Leonard and wife Kathy of Garland, Texas; one daughter, Nancy Leonard Duncan and husband David of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; and one brother, Charles E. Leonard Jr. of Ottumwa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Max Leonard; and two sisters, Mary Faye Leonard McChesney and Mildred Leonard Thoma.
