12/27/2005Glen N. Syfert, 90, of Fairfield died at 4:55 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.
The funeral is set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating.
Burial, with military rites by Haney-Brannan Post 181 of the American Legion in Birmingham and Beer-Barker Post 113 of Keosauqua, will be in Fellows Cemetery in Keosauqua.
Visitation will open at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with family present from 7-8 p.m.
Memorials to the Building Blocks in Birmingham playground may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 404 S. Fourth St., Apt. 203 Fairfield 52556.
Mr. Syfert was born June 19, 1915, near Mount Zion, the son of James W. and Lillie Warner Syfert. He married Evelyn Kerr Sept. 30, 1938, in Fairfield.
He grew up in Van Buren County. He served in the United States Army with the 3184th Signal Battalion in Europe during World War II. He lived in Fairfield. He worked at The Dexter Company for 20 years in Fairfield and at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown for 13 years.
After Mr. Syfert's retirement, the family moved to Cherokee Village, Ark., for four years, to Birmingham in 1985, then to Fairfield in 2001.
Mr. Syfert had been a long-time member of First Church of Nazarene in Fairfield and had attended Birmingham Free Methodist Church.
He was a member of Haney-Brannan Post 181 of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Barbara Johnson of Mount Pleasant, Janice Sparks and husband Gary of Fairfield and Joyce Fulton also of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Syfert of Hillsboro and Rex Syfert of Keosauqua; and four sisters, Kathryn Beer of Marion, Ruth Stansberry of Cedar Rapids, Rita Jeffrey of Keosauqua and Mary Bradfield of Birmingham.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Beverly Shull; and one brother, Martin Syfert.
