Milford E. 'Knute' HUGHES

Milford E. "Knute" HUGHES, 69, 2430 Peach Ave., died at 8:12 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 23, 1995, of a heart attack.

The service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Richard Wallarab officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Open visitation will begin Saturday at Raymond Funeral Home, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Memorials have been established to First Presbyterian Church and Fairfield Public Library.

HUGHES was born May 18, 1926, in Fairfield, the son of O.N. and Hazel GRANT HUGHES. He grew up in Fairfield and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1944. After serving in the U.S. Infantry in the European Theater during World War II, he returned to Fairfield, where he graduated from Parsons College in 1949. On Sept. 4, 1949, he married Mary O'TOOLE in Fairfield. He began his career at Parsons College in 1950 in the admissions office and served as a vice president of Parsons until 1968. The family moved to Simsbury, Conn., in 1969, and he worked for the Vernon Company and later in executive placement before returning to Fairfield. He currently was a real estate agent for Fairfield Real Estate. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Disabled American Veterans and Abracadabra.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Capt. James B. of Newington, Conn.; and a sister, Louise HUGHES EGGER of Kingsport, Tenn. His parents preceded him in death.
