Blanche Lillian Nelson, 83, of 2559 243rd S.t, died at 12:20 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2005, at the Parkview Care Center.

A memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield. Burial will be Saturday at the Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Lincoln, Neb.

Arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mrs. Nelson was born July 30, 1922, in Pender, Neb., the daughter of Emil and Ella Brich Dostal. She married Donald R. Nelson in 1952 in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Mrs. Nelson graduated from Wahoo High School in Wahoo, Neb. She tried twice to enlist in the Navy Waves during World War II, but was turned down because of a heart murmur. She then went to work for Menasco, which provided parts for Lockheed's Airplane manufacturing plant in Los Angeles. She served them until the war was over. She studied fashion art at the Omaha Art Studios.

Mrs. Nelson was active in church circles at the First Plymouth Congregational Church in Lincoln. She also was a life member of the Nebraska Parent Teacher Association, vice-president of the Soil Conservation Auxiliary in Lincoln. Blanche worked at the Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary's sponsored Bargain Box for several years. She was also a member of the P.E.E.R. group of Fairfield, the AARP of Fairfield and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Brandon B. Nelson and wife Berenice of Fairfield; one daughter, Donna J. Nelson and her partner Druyor Knight of Fairfield; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Emil E. Dostal.
