Leland HOLGATE Taken In Death

Leland R. HOLGATE, 75, former resident of Fairfield, died at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday at the Mercy Hospital in Davenport following a lingering illness (note: in Scott Co., IA).

Last rites will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Runge Funeral Chapel in Davenport. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield with Roosevelt Lodge 626, AF&AM, Davenport, conducting the graveside rites.

Leland R. HOLGATE was born July 18, 1892, at Larchland, Ill., and moved to Fairfield with the family when a small cylid (sic - child). He graduated from the Fairfield High School and attended Parsons College.

HOLGATE moved to Davenport 30 years ago. He was employed at International Harvester Motor Truck Division in Rock Island for 25 years until his retirement.

He was a member of a number of Masonic Orders and filled many offices in each.

He was married to Enola GRINSTEAD who died in 1935. On May 6, 1945, he was married to Malinda GOLDEN who survives. Other survivors include his mother, Mrs. D. M. HOLGATE, Fairfield; a brother, Raymond HOLGATE, Belmond; and several nieces and nephews.

HOLGATE was preceded in death by his father and two sisters.

Note: Buried in Lot 2nd.125. Leland had been married three times. First wife was Enola B. GRINSTEAD, in 1917, and she died in 1935. Second wife was Veda B. MAPLES MILLER, in 1942, and she died in 1943; third wife was Melinda SCHWARCK GOLDEN PLAMBECK, in 1945, and she died in 1993. All three wives are buried with him on the same lot, and he shares his headstone with first wife Enola; Veda and Melinda have individual headstones.
