Page 4, Column 1JOSEPH HISEL DIED ON SUNDAY EVENING
Joseph HISEL, a well known resident of Jefferson county died about twelve o'clock Sunday night at his home four miles east of Fairfield. Death resulted from a stroke of paralysis. The funeral services will be held from the home at two o'clock Tuesday afternoon. Burial will be in vergreen (sic) cemetery.
Joseph HISEL would have been seventy years old in December. He came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph (sic - Anthony) HISEL, to Jefferson county sixty-two years ago. He was born in Belgium, one mile from Leige, which is now a battle ground(.) Adolph (sic) HISEL was a German millwright who married a Belgian girl(.) Unless destroyed in this recent fighting, the mill they owned near Liege is being operated unchanged. The stone walls are four feet thick and house, stable and mill are all under one roof. This family came directly to Jefferson county and purchased a farm near Wooster, where land sold at from $2.50 to $3.50 an acre. He was a brother of Louise HISEL of Fairfield and of Mrs. DALMUS of Wapello.
Joseph HISEL married Miss Martha HOWARD and to them were born three children: Charles, who resides three miles northwest of Fairfield, Arthur who resides with his parents and Mrs. SINN of Denver.

Well Known Resident of Jefferson County Dies as Result of Paralytic Stroke
Joseph HISEL passed away at his home southeast of the city late Sabbath night as a result of a paralytic stroke which he suffered Friday.
The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the home and interment was made in Evergreen cemetery.
Obituary.
Joseph HISEL was born in Belgium December 6, 1844. He, with his parents, brothers and sisters, crossed the waters to America at the age of nine years.
In early life he visited Pike's Peak and the gold fields of the west, but came back to good old Jefferson county, locating in Cedar township, where he has since made his home. His love for fine stock made him one of the most successful farmers of Jefferson county.
A few years ago Mr. HISEL had a slight stroke of paralysis and on August 21, 1914, he suffered another stroke as he was arising in the morning, from which he never regained consciousness.
Everything that loving hands could do was done but to no avail for death claimed him.
Mr. HISEL was a good citizen and was held in the higest esteem by all who knew him. He was of a retiring nature but of an independent mind and was a well-informed man, and his judgment was often sought. He was not a member of any church but always gave liberally to all contributions for good and always insisted on his family attending worship, Methodist being his preference.
In 1869 he was united in marriage with Miss Martha HOWARD and the have (sic) traveled life's journey together. Three children blessed this union, Charles. of Center township, A. W., on the home place; and Gertie SINN, of Denver, Col. A brother, Louis HISEL of Fairfield, and a sister, Mrs. Mary DALMAS of Wapello, also survive him and were at his bedside when death came. Mrs. SINN was unable to be present at his death but arrived shortly afterward.
He was a kind hearted, affectionate husband and father and his children are living monuments to his memory and when Joseph HISEL stepped across thə (sic) mystic borderland there ended upon this earth one good, useful, blameless life.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home and a large concourse of friends were present to pay their last respeets (sic). Interment was made in the Evergreen cemetery.
