Page 8, Column 2Obituary-- Mrs. Joseph GORDON.
Died, at her residence near Salina, on the 26th ult., about 6 p.m., Mrs. Joseph GORDON, aged 65 years, 1 month and 10 days.
Elizabeth GILBERT was born in County Antrim, Ireland, July 16, 1825. She came to Fairfield in 1845; was married to Joseph GORDON Dec. 29, 1847. The deceased has been a faithful member of the Presbyterian church for over fort-one years. She was the mother of seven children: Mrs. Robert LYNN, Mrs. Amos FOOTE, Mrs. Maggie ALLENDER, Preston and Alexander GORDON, all residents of Jefferson county; Mrs. George TRABERT, Griswold, Ia., and Robert GORDON, Mankato, Kan. All were with her when she was called home. A noble christian mother and woman has gone from among us. No one could have left a wider circle of friends. She has been so afflicted of late years that she seldom was away from home; but had always a kind word of welcome for young and old and all went out from her presence feeling better for having been there. God has granted her wish to be at rest, and He alone can comfort the stricken family who so bitterly mourn her loss. What a consolation to know that the sufferer is now where there is neither pain or sorrow. "Safe in the arms of Jesus!" For such to die is gain. "Yea, blessed are the dead who died in the Lord from henceforth," saith the Spirit. They rest from their labors and their works do follow them. May the near and dear ones whose hearts have been made so sad be ennobled to live in such a manner as to meet the departed in the bright realms on high, where separation and death will never enter. Funeral services were conducted in the Richwoods church, Rev. B. Wall, her former pastor, officiating.
