Joseph GORDON, who died at the home of Robert LYNN, a soninlaw (sic), nine miles northeast of this city Saturday, came to Jefferson county in 1843, and resided here continuously until his death. He was born in County Antrim, Ireland, September 20th, 1820, and came to the United States when twenty-three years of age. He married Eliza GILBERT, now dead, in December, 1847, and seven children were born to them, all of whom have grown to manhood and womanhood and are now living. Robert and Mary live in Kansas, Jennie, Eva, Alexander, Maggie and Preston in this county, and all were present at the funeral except the daughter Mary. Mr. GORDON had been in failing health for several years, and died from an affliction of the kidneys. His final illness was about a week in duration. For the greater part of the half century which he spent in this county he resided on a farm in Buchanan township. Mr. GORDON was a man of kindly and generous impulses and strict honesty and integrity. He had a wide acquaintance among the older people of Jefferson county and many warm friendships. The remains were interred Monday. Rev. J. F. Magill conducted the funeral services at the Upper Richwoods Methodist church, and the remains were buried in the cemetery adjoining.
