FairfieldJohn Demaine FORD, born on April 28, 1942, in Iowa City, Iowa, formerly of Douds, Iowa, passed away on October 19, 2024, in Fairfield, Iowa. He was a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, known for his hard work and stubbornness.
John was the proud owner of Ford Handyman Service for many years, showcasing his skill and dedication to his craft. He later retired from Dexter Foundry in Fairfield. After retirement he worked for a time at the post office in Keosauqua. He had a passion for the outdoors, often spending his free time fishing, building, & tinkering. These activities brought him immense joy.
He was the son of John "Jack" and Violet (JACOBS) FORD, and was fortunate to have a beloved second mother, Nellie FORD. He married Janet K. BAIN on Oct. 10, 1965 in Salem, Iowa. They later divored. John was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jesse, sister Viola, one great-grandson, and one great-granddaughter.
John is survived by his son, Neal (Mickie) FORD of Fairfield, along with his grandchildren, John (Kindra) of Worthington, Mo., Nathan (Shannon) of Hedrick, and ShaLeah (Noah) of Fairfield. He also leaves behind a legacy of love with 16 great-grandchildren and sister Cathy of Macon, Mo.
John's family and friends will remember him fondly for his spirit and the lasting impact he made on their lives.
Per John's wishes he is being cremated. No public services are planned. You may send condolences to the family via Ford Family/ShaLeah, 900 S. 6th St., Fairfield, IA 52556.
