FairfieldBarbara "Bobbie" Lee LAWSON, devoted wife of Major General Warren Glenn LAWSON, passed away of natural causes peacefully on Friday, October 18, 2024, at the age of 90.
Bobbie was a stranger to no one; she made friends everywhere that she went and her unassuming nature made others feel so comfortable and welcome in her presence. Bobbie was a truly amazing wife, mother, grandmother, family member and friend who was an inspiration to all those whom she met in this life.
Born on July 13, 1934 in Fairfield, Iowa, to Pearl and Albert Royalton "Slim" GARDNER. She grew up with a deep appreciation for service and education, values she carried throughout her life. Bobbie met Warren "Bud" LAWSON and their love story blossomed, leading to a beautiful marriage that spanned over 60 years.
As a military spouse, Bobbie embraced the challenges of military life with both grace and resilience. She was actively involved in Bud's various military deployments and moves. While Bud was deployed, she stepped in to lead the family through challenges both big and small. Additionally, she assisted other families through these challenging times and helped them to come out stronger on the other side. In her retirement and free time, Bobbie enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and spending time with her coffee group and her grandchildren/great-grandchildren.
Prior to Covid, the family would get together every Sunday for cheese and veggie trays followed by dinner ordered in! These are moments that are irreplaceable and time that we were so blessed to have.
Bobbie is survived by her daughter, Laurie WELLS; her grandchildren Nicki (Nate) MESTON, Erin (Kody) FORD and Rabe LAWSON; her great-grandchildren Kate, Zack, Finn, Oliver, Audrey and Lydia. She is also survived by her brother, Jerry and multiple other family members and friends who are left to cherish her memory.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, Major General Warren LAWSON; her son, Lance LAWSON; her sister, Rose ABBEY and her brother James GARDNER.
Per Bobbie's wishes, no funeral services will be held. Bobbie will be interred with her husband at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, Iowa at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to Easter Seals of Central Iowa Child Development Center or ChildServe Rehabilitation Unit in honor of Bobbie.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be left at www.ankenyfuneralhome.com for the LAWSON family.
