BATAVIA, Ia. -- Charles HIDY 88, lifetime resident of this county died at 4:45 a.m. today at the Jefferson County hospital where he had been a patient for six weeks. He had been in failing health for six months.
HIDY spent most of his life in Locust Grove township. His farm home is five miles northeast of Batavia.
Last rites will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral home in Fairfield. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
HIDY was born Nov. 4, 1870 at Batavia, the son of George W. and Mary MOORE HIDY. His first marriage was to Maude DeGOOD who died in 1892. On March 7, 1907 he was married to Girtha STARK, who survives.
Other survivors are the following children: Ralph HIDY, Charlotte, Mich.; Mrs. Dorothy HARDEN, Fairfield; and Robert HIDY, Batavia. Four grandchildren and three great grandchildren also survive. Four sisters and one brother are deceased.
