Mrs. J. L. HICKS, former resident of Fairfield, passed away last night in Des Moines (note: in Polk Co., IA).
The body will be returned to Fairfield for burial Thursday in Evergreen cemetery. Details for the services are not yet complete.
Mr. and Mrs. HICKS were the parents of two daughters, Hope and Dorothy, who both survive. Leslie HICKS preceded his wife in death several years ago.

Last rites for Mrs. Laura E. HICKS, 83, former Fairfield resident, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Hamilton Funeral home in Des Moines.
Mrs. HICKS died Monday at Broadlawns hospital in Des Moines after an illness of four years. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery here Saturday at 11 a.m.
Mrs. HICKS was born in Washington county and resided in Fairfield for 50 years. She was a member of the First Methodist church here and Rebekah Lodge No. 96.
Surviving are two daughters Mrs. Hope HALL CARBER, Des Moines; Mrs. Dorothy WELCH, New Rochelle, N. Y.; and one sister, Mrs. Ella MERCHANT, Washington. Her husband, J. L. HICKS, died in 1936.

A number of relatives were here to attend graveside services Saturday at 11 a.m. for Mrs. Leslie HICKS, a former Fairfield resident. Mrs. HICKS died in Des Moines where services were held Thursday.
Mrs. HICKS was the former Laura WEIDNER and was born at Brighton Oct. 31, 1875, the daughter of Henry and Minerva BIDWELL WEIDNER. She married Leslie HICKS April 30, 1902, at Brighton and the couple moved to Fairfield in 1906. He worked for the local telephone company for many years. Mrs. HICKS lived here until 1956. Her husband preceded her in death in 1936.
Among the relatives who were guests Saturday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Schafer, 601 W. Adams, were Mrs. HICKS' daughters, Mrs. Hope CARBER of Des Moines and Mrs. Dorothy WELCH of New York, N.Y.; and a granddaughter, Mrs. William (Joy) McCLINTOCK of St. Petersburg, Fla. Others included Mrs. Ella MERCHANT, Mrs. Edith WEIDNER and Mr. and Mrs. Francis KOON of Washington and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence BENSON of Crawfordsville.
