Funeral Services To Be At Hoskins Funeral Home Friday, 2:30 p.m.J. Leslie HICKS, well-known Fairfield resident and prominent in Odd Fellow circles, passed away suddenly at his home here this morning following a heart attack.
Mr. HICKS had been to the post office for the mail, and upon returning home sat in the kitchen while Mrs. HICKS read the letters. When Mrs. HICKS finished, she noticed that he had fainted in his chair. She called a physician and shortly after his arrival, Mr. HICKS passed away.
He is survived by his wife and two married daughters, Mrs. Dorothy WELCH of Chicago and Mrs. Hope HULL of Des Moines.
Surviving also are two grandchildren, Sharon WELCH and Joy HULL, and one sister Mrs. Joe DAY of Brighton.
Mr. HICKS was born near Brighton, February 27, 1879. For the past thirty-two years he has been a resident of Fairfield. For twenty years he was employed with the local telephone company, for eight years a collector of cigarette revenue, and for two years a federal district safety inspector. He was a past grand in the Jefferson Lodge No. 4, I. O. O. F., and was at one time on the board of trustees for the I. O. O. F. Home in Mason City. He was a member of the First Methodist church.
Funeral services will be held at the Hoskins Funeral Home on Friday at 2:30 p.m.

J. Leslie HICKS was born in Washington county, February 27, 1879, and passed away at his home here on November 18, 1936. On April 30, 1902, he was united in marriage to Laura WEIDNER of Brighton, who with two daughters Mrs. Hope HULL of Des Moines, and Mrs. Dorothy WELCH of Chicago, also two granddaughters, Joy HULL and Sharon WELCH, survive, and one sister, Mrs. Joe DAY of Brighton.
Mr. HICKS had been a resident of Fairfield for the past 32 years. For twenty years he was associated with the local telephone company, and for eight years a law enforcement officer under the state Treasurer, Ray C. Johnson, and two years he spent as Federal Safety Engineer.
He was a Past Grand of Jefferson lodge No. 4, I. O. O. F., and served for six years as chairman of the finance committee of the I. O. O. F. Homes in Mason City. He was a member of the First Methodist church.
Private funeral services were held at the home Friday afternoon and from the Hoskins Funeral Home at 2:30 p.m., in charge of Dr. M. A. Gable of the First Methodist church, and Lynn J. Irwin, Past Grand Master of the I. O. O. F., of Des Moines.
Services at the cemetery were in charge of I. O. O. F. lodge, No. 4.
