Gordon Rex Short
October 31, 2005Gordon Rex Short, 80, of Milton, died in his sleep at 2:15 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005, at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Grace United Methodist Church in Milton, with the Rev. Bryon Wixom officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton.
The family will receive friends at the church from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the beginning of the service. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Memorials to Grace United Methodist Church or charity of donor's choice may be left at the church or mailed to the family at: 709 N. Unions St., Milton 52570.
Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Short was born Nov. 27, 1924, in Cantril, the son of James Frederick and Mabel Lenore Wollam Short. He married Mary Louise Fisher January 21, 1945, in Milton.
Mr. Short graduated from Milton High School in 1942 and was a farmer all his life. He was very involved in community betterment activities. Mr. Short was the last living charter member of the Milton Lions Club, holding most of the officer positions several times in fifty-three years of Lions service. He was a leader of the Fox Valley 4-H Club, having been a member of that same 4-H club as a young man. Mr. Short was also a member of the Iowa Cattleman's Association for many years. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church Milton. Mr. Short and Mary Louise lived on the family farm until they retired to Milton in 1992.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, David Short and wife Ana Rigioni and Curtis Short and wife Kelly Barnard, all of Milton; two daughters, Diane Petersen and husband Merle of Oxford Junction and Anita Marlay and husband Greg of Exline; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
