Sally Delores KURTZ, 71, of 229 N. McLean, Ottumwa, died at 8:50 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005 at home with her family.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary of the Visitation Church, Ottumwa, with Rev. Bernie Weir officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery (note: in Wapello Co., IA).

Visitation will begin after 9 a.m. Sunday at the Reece Funeral Home, Ottumwa, with family present from 4-6 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Hospice.

Mrs. KURTZ was born Sept. 21, 1934, the daughter of Harold and Mary FINNIGAN KENT. She married James Joseph KURTZ Nov. 17, 1953. He preceded her in death Sept. 13, 1993.

Mrs. KURTZ was a resident of Ottumwa all her life. She was a graduate of Ottumwa Heights. She worked at the Red Lyon Inn, was a Homemaker for the Department of Human Services and manager of Herm's Restaurant.

Mrs. KURTZ was a member of St. Mary of the Visitation Church.

Survivors include her mother, Mary KENT of Ottumwa; a sister, Nancy and husband Bill CARR of Burlington; three sons, Mike KURTZ of Boone, Pat and wife Mary KURTZ of Donnellson, and Tim and wife Kristi KURTZ of Ottumwa; five daughters, Deb and husband Owen KERR of Marshalltown, Kim COURTNEY of Ottumwa, Cindy and husband William HOPKINS of Ottumwa, Katie and husband Chris SCHAUB of Iowa City, and Kelly and husband Mark VAN ALST of Des Moines; one daughter-in-law; 23 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her father, Harold KENT; a brother, Tom KENT; and her son, Dennis "Herm" KURTZ.
