October 27, 2005Gladys M. Johnson Heghin, 97, of Emmetsburg, died Tuesday Oct. 25, 2005, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg.
A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 5 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Story City Municipal Cemetery in Story City.
Martin-Mattice Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Heghin was born Dec. 29, 1907, in Story City, the daughter of J.C. and Louise Robertson Johnson. She married Lewis A. Heghin at Camdenton, Mo. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Heghin was a graduate of Iowa State University with degrees in home economics education and journalism. She taught home economics in McCallsburg Consolidated Schools and was the county home economist for Black Hawk County in Waterloo and was the women's editor for Successful Farming Magazine in Des Moines. She and her husband's first home was in New Orleans, La., where he served as staff sergeant at the LaGarde General Hospital. After his discharge from the service, they moved to Minneapolis where their son was born. After several moves, they made their home in Fairfield in the early 1950s and later moved to Lake Crystal, Minn. In 1968, they moved to Emmetsburg where her husband took over as the first administrator at Lakeside Lutheran Home.
Mrs. Heghin was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Sarah Circle and W/ELCA in Emmetsburg and a member of P.E.O. Chapter BK. She belonged to the Friday Club for 25 years and served as chairwoman of Lakeside Lutheran Home Auxiliary.
Throughout her life, she was a 4-H judge in Jefferson County and was a contributor to the Minnesota Prairie Electric Publication as well as the Iowa R.E.C.
Survivors include one son Lewis C. Heghin of Cylinder.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and one sister.
