Marion "Bud" Lankford, 78, of Richland, died at 7:03 a.m. Monday, Oct. 24, 2005 at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield following a brief illness.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Gould Funeral Home in Richland, with Rev. Dean Elmore officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery.

Open visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6-8 p.m. A memorial for the American Stroke Association has been established.

Mr. Lankford was born Feb. 24, 1927, in Ceylon, Minn., the son of Thomas Lee and Goldie Derby Lankford. He married Donna Irene Sharp in Sigourney Aug. 8, 1946.

Mr. Lankford attended Richland area country schools. He worked as a bulldozer operator for many years and had been employed at factory work in Fairfield. Mr. Lankford lived most of his life in the Richland and Ollie area.

He is survived by his wife; four sons, Larry Lankford and wife Darlene of Batavia, Jerry Lankford and wife Nancy of Richland, Charles Lankford of Washington and Robert Lankford and wife Dian of Brighton; two daughters, Carla Lankford of Richland and Kathy Walker and husband Dennis of Mount Pleasant; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; nine step great-grandchildren; five sisters, Helen Baker of Fairfield, Vivian Hobbs of Lowell, Dorothy Ross of Lenexa, Kan., Betty Morrow of Romaland, Calif., and Shirley Niece of Richland; and one brother, Kenneth Lankford of Mound City, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Merle Lankford; and two sisters, Opal Estes and one in infancy.
