Mrs. Mary HENDERSON Passed Away at Des Moines Saturday--Burial Here.
Mrs Mary HENDERSON formerly of this city, died Saturday evening at the home of her daughter Mrs,. Willa HENDERSON-AITKINS at DesMoines in her 48th year (sic - 84th). The body will be brought to this city for interment arriving at noon Tuesday. There will be brief services at the Methodist church at 1:30 p.m., Rev. C. L. Tennant officiating, and the interment will be made in Evergreen cemetery in the family lot by the side of her husband Rev. Thos. HENDERSON.
Mary SAWAYER was born in Piqua, Ohio, April 27, 1826, and where she spent her girlhood days. In 1852 at this place she was married to Adrian Walker RODGERS, a graduate of Miami University and one of the six founders of the Greek letter fraternity of Phi Delta Theta. Four years later the young couple left for Brighton, Ia., where Mr. Walker (sic) taught school, but the fall of the same year he died and is buried at that place.
In November, 1864, at Birmingham she was married to Rev. Thomas HENDERSON, a member of the Iowa conference of the Methodist church. Shortly after their marriage they came to Fairfield to make thrir (sic) home. Rev. HENDERSON died July 7, 1889 (sic - 1888). The widow and daughter continued to make their home here until a few years ago when they moved to Des Moines.
Mrs. HENDERSON enjoyed extremely good health for one of her age until a week ago when she was taken ill and passed away on the evening of the 27th.
Her last days were free from suffering and she passed quietly away. In her early life she was nurtured in the faith of the United Presbyterian church but upon her marriage to Rev. HENDERSON she accepted the doctrine of the Methodist church.
Mrs. HENDERSON was a saintly character; no other expression could so completely portray the beauty and goodness of her life. She was a benediction and an inspiration to all who came under the benign influence of her words and deeds. Many in and about Fairfield and in the wide circle of her acquaintance will feel in her death a personal loss but the grief over her death will be very largely assuaged by the comfort that must be taken in the thought of a life well lived, of ripe years and a glorious harvest in the abiding faith that this saint on earth has gone to a saint's reward.
