DEATH OF MRS. DAVID HEDGE.

Editors Ledger:--A general feeling of sadness pervades our community because of the death on Sunday of Mrs. Adella HEDGE. She had been a sufferer from an abscess for eight weeks past, and death had been hourly expected for several days. Death is sad, indeed, but in this instance it seems doubly so. Here was a beautiful and happy home, an proud father, a faithful wife and mother and an exceedingly bright little boy looking forward to the highest expectations. But, alas, He who knoweth best has seen fit to remove the idol of that fond husband of a few years, little Charles has lost his best friend, though too young to realize it, and the home is made desolate. It is a joy and consolation to those who are left, however, to know that the loved one departed rejoicing in the hope that only christians have. To see her calm in the trying hour of death, rejoicing and singing hymns of priase, made an impression on those about her which will never be forgotten. Mrs. HEDGE joined the Methodist church when twelve years of age, and has since lived the life of a christian. Since marriage she has been connected with the Pleasant Grove church and has been a willing and earnest worker. In her death the church loses one of its brightest and best members, and no place will her bright face and sweet voice be more missed than in Pleasant Grove. She was married to David HEDGE July 10th, 1889, and their home has been four miles north of Fairfield. By her winning ways and gentle manner she had gathered to herself a wide circle of acquaintances, and it may be truthfully said that no one knew her but to love her. All will mourn her death and sympathize with her bereaved husband. Mrs. HEDGE was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. JONES of Brighton, and was born in Washington county, January 19th, 1868. Her son Charles was born July 7th, 1891, and her death occurred September 17th. The remains were interred in the Evergreen cemetery Monday afternoon, Rev. E. L. Schreiner conducting the services.

Death of Mrs. David HEDGE.

A general feeling of sadness and regret prevaded (sic) this entire vicinity last Sunday, caused by the news of the death of Mrs. Adella HEDGE, who had been suffering for the past eight weeks from an abscess, and whose death had been hourly expected for the previous four days. Death at best is sad indeed, but in this case seemed doubly so. Just a few weeks before here was a beautiful and happy home, a devoted husband and father, a faithful and loving wife and mother, and an exceedingly bright little boy, all well and looking forward with the highest expectations. But, alas, though mysterious seems the ways of Providence, He who knoweth best has seen fit to remove her who was perhaps too great an idol in that home; but what a joy and consolation to those who are left to know that she departed rejoicing in the hope that only christans have. When she had suffered all it seemed that mortal could suffer, and had borne all patiently, with never a murmur; and when she saw that she must bid farewell to her friends and all her highest earthly hopes, she called for her husband and little boy, her aged father and mother, and brothers and sisters, and had them form a family circle around her; then one by one she gently took them by the hand and plead affectionally for them to meet here where pain, sorrow and tears are unknown; and with those who had not the hope that was such a comfort to her she plead earnestly and lovingly for them to promise to prepare to meet her on the other shore. To see her, so very calm in such a trying hour, rejoicing, and with her feeble but beautiful voice singing praises, made an impression on those who heard her that will never be forgotten, and makes plain the scriptural quotation, "Oh death, where is thy sting? Oh grave, where is thy victory!" She joined the M. E. church at the age of twelve years, since which time she has lived the life of a christian. After her marriage her name was transferred to Pleasant Grove church, where she has been an nearnest and willing worker, and in her death the church looses (sic) one of its brightest and best members and nowhere will her sweet voice and influence be more missed than in the Pleasant Grove Sunday School.

Since her marriage to David HEDGE, which occured July 10, 1889, she has resided with her husband at their home four miles north of Fairfield, and through her very gentle and winning ways had gathered to herself a very large circle of acquaintances. It might truthfully be said, none knew her but to love her, those loving her best who knew her best, and all mourning her death and sympathizing with her bereaved husband.

Mrs. HEDGE was the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. JONES, of Brighton, Ia., and was born in Washington Co., Iowa, Jan. 19, 1868. Her son Charles was born July 7, 1891. Her death occured Sept. 17, 1892, at 9 o'clock p.m.

The remains were interred in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, Monday afternoon, Rev. Schreiner conducting the services.
