Death takes C. HASTINGS

Claude H. HASTINGS, 78, of Mason City, former Fairfield resident, died Monday at Mason City Hospital (note: in Cerro Gordo Co., IA).

Services will be Wednesday, 3 p.m., at Major-Erickson Funeral Home in Mason City with the Rev. Keith L. Scott officiating. Graveside committal services will be Thursday, 1 p.m., at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

He is survived by his wife, Leta of Mason City; one stepson; five stepdaughters and two sisters.

HASTINGS served with the Coast Guard in World War I. He lived for a number of years in Washington State. He moved to Fairfield in 1952 and worked as a draftsman at the Ordinance Plant in Burlington. He moved to Mason City in 1975.

He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City.

Note: Buried in Lot 5th.088 with wife Mattie A. TALLEY HASTINGS who preceded him in death in 1974. He was first married to Edith May HOLMWOOD in 1924, and they divorced in 1937. The surviving wife noted above must have been a third marriage; nothing more is known about her as of the date of this posting. Claude was born May 28, 1900 in MI.
