Mary Mae Kawano, 80, of Chicago, Ill., died Monday, Oct. 10, 2005, at her residence in Chicago.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Mrs. Kawano was born in Douds.

Mrs. Kawano and her husband Jack were co-founders of Kar-Mar Enterprises, which made knitting machines. They owned the company for 35 years. The couple also founded and owned the Deb N' Heir children's clothing store on the Fairfield Square in the late 1950s.

Survivors include one son, Karl Kawano of Chicago; and one sister, Lucile Hining.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1999; one brother, Roy Lewis; and one sister, Beulah Lewis.
