Von Gene Maddix, 76, of Birmingham, died at 2:15 a.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at Jefferson County Hospital.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fell Cemetery in Libertyville, with the Rev. Dave Peterson officiating.

Family visitation will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.

Mr. Maddix was born Aug. 31, 1929, in Libertyville, the son of Aaron Glade and Lorraine Turpin Maddix.

Mr. Maddix lived all of his life in Jefferson County. He graduated from Libertyville High School, was a United States Navy veteran -- serving from 1950-1954, was employed for many years at the foundry at The Dexter Company and was a custom combine operator on area farms. His pastimes included fishing and hunting.

Survivors include one son, Randy Maddix and wife Susan of Birmingham; two daughters, Becky Pohren and husband Bob of Camdenton, Mo., and April Swanson and husband Roy of Packwood; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter; one sister, Mary Dell Griffiths of Libertyville; and one brother, Vern Maddix of Sun City, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
