Death Comes To William HAGANS

William A. "Joe" HAGANS, former city employee, passed away early this morning at Briggs Eskew Nursing home. His death came at 5:45 a.m. after he had been in failing health for the past nine months and seriously ill the past week.

Last rites will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Dr. E. A. Piper in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

William A. HAGANS, 76, was born December 11, 1880, at Canton, Ill., the son of the late John C. and Harriet Malinda HAGANS.

He came to Jefferson county when a child and was employed by the city for several years.

He was united in marriage on July 20, 1909, in Fairfield to Bertha PROBAND. She passed away in 1932. He was married a second time on Sept. 5, 1935, to Gertrude COFMAN who passed away in 1944. Mr. HAGANS was a member of the Lutheran church.

He is survived by the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. William NORDYKE and Mrs. Maude HYDE, both of Fairfield; James E. HAGANS, Ottumwa; Silbert H. HAGANS, Brighton; and Ed HAGANS, Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers.
