A. F. GROVE, NATIVE OF SWEDEN, DIES

Funeral services to be on Friday afternoon for local resident

Axel Fritz GROVE, 73, passed away early this morning at the Jefferson county hospital following a lingering illness.

Mr. GROVE had made his home with his brother, Elmer, southeast of Fairfield for a number of years. During his illness he was brought to the home of his niece, Mrs. Fred ROBINSON, 402 West Hempstead and later to the hospital.

Mr. GROVE was born in Fakoting, Sweden, on March 23, 1866. He was at one time a practicing physician.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Esther BRESLEY of Winner, South Dakota, and Mrs. Hanna DAVIS of Colorado Springs, Colo., and three brothers, Dr. E. G. GROVE of Boone, and O. R. and Elmer GROVE of Fairfield.

His parents, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at the Weston Behner Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Funeral services for A. F. GROVE will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Weston Behner Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. S. P. Williamson. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery.

AXEL FRITZ GROVE

Axel Fritz, third of the eleven children of Andrew Gustof and Christina GROVE was born in Folcupping, Sweden on March 23, 1866. He passed away at the Jefferson county hospital on Thursday morning, March 30, 1938 (sic - 1939) when past 73 years of age. The family came to America in 1869 and settled in Jefferson county near Lockridge and most of his life was spent in this county. He was a graduate of Keokuk Medical School and practiced at Lockridge, Iowa and later at Peonia, Colorado, failing hearing caused his retirement from the medical profession. In young manhood he spent three years in Washington State. In his later hears he made his home with his brother Elmer, southwest of Fairfield. During his illness he was brought to the home of his niece, Mrs. Fred ROBINSON and later was taken to the Jefferson county hospital. Here he passed away.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Esther BRESLEY of Winner, S. D. and Mrs. Hannah DAVIS of Colorado Springs, Colo., by three brothers, Dr. E. G. GROVE of Boone, Ia., O. R. and Elmer of Fairfield. Besides these a number of relatives and friends will mourn his passing. Preceding him in death are his parents, two sisters Ollie and Anna and three brothers Charles, Joe and William. Mr. GROVE was confirmed in the Lutheran church in his youth. He was a quiet, friendly and good citizen. His kindliness, his unobtrusiveness and amiable attitude made many friends who will mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon, April 1, at 2:00 o'clock at the Weston Behner Funeral Home with Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Paul Coleson sang the "Old Rugged Cross" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", accompanied by Mrs. E. G. Linder. Interment was in the family lot at Evergreen cemetery. Pall bearers were Roy Clark, E. D. Reed, Don Humphrey, Ephraim Hollander, Omar Tracht and Dale Lyons.
