... --Mrs. L. B. CREATH, of Pinehurst, N. C. arrived in the city yesterday, being called here for the illness of her mother, Mrs. H. J. GRIFFITHS who is a patient in the Mercy hospital in Iowa City. Mrs. GRIFFITHS seems slightly improved and Mrs. CREATH and her sister, Mrs. Lindly BISSIG, 103 N. Morgan street are planning to visit their mother tomorrow. ...

... --Clement GRIFFITHS, who was called here by the serious illness of his mother, Mrs. H. J. GRIFFITHS has returned to his home in Madison, Minn. Mr. GRIFFITHS is the manager of the Gamble store in Madison.

DEATH CLAIMS MRS. GRIFFITHS

Mrs. H. J. GRIFFITHS, 62, well known Fairfield resident, passed away last night at the Mercy hospital in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA). Her death came at 9:20 p.m. Mrs. GRIFFITHS had been ill for several months and a patient at the hospital in Iowa City since last week.

Last rites will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home with Dr. L. H. Scherer in charge. Burial will be in the Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. GRIFFITHS was born December 9, 1855, at Winfield, Iowa, the daughter of the late Henry and Maria Jane VAN OSDOL WALKER. She was united in marriage October 21, 1908, to Hezekiah J. GRIFFITHS, who survives.

Mrs. GRIFFITHS was a member of the Methodist church and had been a well known resident in the community for 34 years.

Besides her husband, she is survived by the following children, Leota, Des Moines; Clement, Madison, Minnesota; Mrs. Boyd CREATH, Pinehurst, North Carolina; and Mrs. Lindley BISSIG, Fairfield.

She is also survived by the following brothers and sisters, Mrs. Grant BRIDGES, Charles and Arthur WALKER, all of Mediapolis, Iowa, and Hugh WALKER, Muscatine.
