LOCAL WOMAN PASSES AWAY AT HOSPITAL

Mrs. Delzell GREEN, 74, lifetome resident of Jefferson county succumbed late yesterday evening at the Jefferson county hospital after an eight day serious illness.

Funeral services will be held at the First Methodist church Monday afternoon December 31, at 2:30 o'clock with the Rev. A. P. Keast in charge.

Burial wil take place in the GIFT family lot in Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. GREEN, daughter of the late Charles and Margaret GIFT, is survived by her husband, Delzell GREEN, owner of the Browning Studio in Fairfield; two sisters, Mrs. Alta McELHENNY and Mrs. Vennie MATHER, both of Los Angeles, Calif., and one brother, Will GIFT of Oregon, who had left Fairfield last Monday to visit his sisters in California.

OBITUARY

MRS. DELZELL GREEN

Alice Maude GIFT, eldest daughter of Charles and Margaret GIFT, was born January 26, 1870, on a farm in Jefferson county, north of Birmingham, Iowa. A few years later her parents moved to a farm two miles north of Fairfield. After several years they moved to Fairfield, where Mr. GIFT engaged in the trade of harnessmaker.

She received her education in the public schools of Fairfield, later becoming a teacher in the rural schools of the county.

In early life she united with the Methodist church and has remained a devoted and faithful member, being active in the organizations of the church as long as her health permitted.

She was united in marriage with Delzell GREEN April 20, 1899. Four years later they moved to their present home, that Mrs. GREEN might be a companion to her mother. She was a devoted wife and daughter and was a real homemaker. She was, for a time, a member of the Rebekah Lodge, and was a member of the Daughters of Union Veterans.

Mrs. GREEN passed away at the Jefferson county hospital, December 10, 1943, after an illness of eight days. She was preceded in death by her father in 1898, and her mother in March, 1930.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. P. C. McELHANY (sic), Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Vinnie MATHER, Inglewood, Calif., and William GIFT, also of Inglwood (sic), Calif.; Also a nephew, Paul McELHANY, Huntington Park, Calif.; two cousins, Miss Kate DUNCAN and Frank DUNCAN, of Fairfield, besides a number of cousins residing at a distance.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, Dec. 13th, conducted by Rev. A. P. Keast with Mrs. Frank Pierson at the organ.

Mrs. Arthur Greef and Mrs. Dillon Lowell sang three songs one of which was for the Daughters of Union Veterans part of the services.

Pallbearers were T. B. Short, L. E. Clinkenbeard, L. R. Heston, Wm. Stever, Fred McClain and J. F. T. Saur.

Burial was on the GIFT family lot in Evergreen cemetery.
