Arthur F. GREEF, Local Insurance Agent, Succumbs

Arthur F. GREEF, former Fairfield post office employe and long-time insurance agent, passed away last night at 9 p.m. at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines (note: in Polk Co., IA).

Suffering from lukemia (sic), he had been in failing health for the past several months.

Last rites will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home with Dr. C. R. Douglass in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery with Masonic rites conducted at the grave.

Arthur F. GREEF, 66, was born at Bentonsport, Ia., on Nov. 6, 1886, the son of the late Fred and Hattie GREEF. When he was six years of age his parents moved to Pittsburg, Kan., where his father passed away.

The family then moved to Fairfield in November, 1898, where GREEF attended schools. He was later employed at the Fairfield post office for 12 years, after which he traveled for the Louden Machinery company.

He established his own insurance agency in Fairfield in 1930, a business he conducted until his health forced him to retire.

GREEF was a member of the First Presbyterian church, and Clinton Lodge, A.F. and A.M. which he joined in 1908 and served as worshipful master in 1935. He was a life member of the Shrine, Kaaba Temple, Davenport, and a Knight Templar.

Arthur GREEF was united in marriage to Helen WHITE on June 15, 1910. The wedding took place in Fairfield. His wife preceded him in death on March 19, 1951.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clare ORTH, Des Moines, and Mrs. A. C. CHRISTENSEN, Wilmette, Ill., and three granddaughters. He is also survived by a sister, Bessie L. McCOY, Los Angeles and a brother, Ralph GREEF, also of Los Angeles.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
