John C. "Jack" GORMAN, 56, 1006 S. Fifth, died at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Ottumwa Manor in Ottumwa following a lengthy illness (note: in Wapello Co., IA).
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Bartruff officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
John C. GORMAN was born July 28, 1922, in Fairfield. He was the son of Clarence and Marguerita ZEIGLER GORMAN. His parents are deceased.
GORMAN served as manager of the VFW Club for 16 years before his retirement due to ill health.
He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Europe. He also served in the National Guard. GORMAN was a member of the United Methodist Church, Elks, American Legion and a life member of the VFW.
A graduate of the Fairfield High School and Parsons College, he spent his entire life in the Fairfield Community.
His marriage to Florence WITTMER DICKINSON took place in Fairfield March 20, 1969.
In addition to his widow GORMAN is survived by two daughters, Deah WESTERCAMP, Farmington and Kim CAMPBELL, Mount Pleasant; a son, Richard GORMAN, Mesa, Arizona; five grandchildren, eight stepchildren and five stepgrandchildren.
Also two sisters, Mrs. Don McGIFFIN, Excelsior Springs, Mo., and Mrs. Robert SHUMAKER, Ottumwa.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.

We wish to express our most sincere thanks to friends, neighbors, and relatives who contributed so generously of their time and efforts during the illness and death of our husband and father John GORMAN. Cards, flowers, food and memorials were deeply appreciated. The courtesies and service of food by Ladies Auxiliary of VFW were a real blessing. A special thanks to all doctors and nurses at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Iowa City and Ottumwa Manor Nursing Home in Ottumwa and to Rev. Wayne Bartruff and Raymond's Funera Home (sic). May God bless each o you! (sic)
