OBITUARY

B. F. GOBEN

Benjamin F. GOBEN was born at Van Meter, Iowa, on Feb. 18, 1870, and departed from this life on Friday evening, June 14, at the Moline Lutheran hospital at Moline, Ill. Mr. GOBEN subitted to an operation at the Jefferson County hospital on June 4, 1928. He never fully regained his health and spent the summer and winter months with his daughter, Mrs. E. E. SIRFOREUS, who lives southeast of the city. Mr. GOBEN went to Moline, Ill., in May of this year, and worked for two weeks, when he took seriously ill on Sunday morning, June 2. He submitted to an operation that afternoon and rallied for a few days, when he became worse and another operation was performed on June 10. A blood transfusion was deemed necessary on Friday morning, and Mr. GOBEN's daughter-in-law, Mrs. Dean H. GOBEN, gave one and one-half pints of her blood. He rallied for a short time but death claimed him the same evening at 8:30, after a heroic fight for his life. Mr. GOBEN was conscious to the end and never gave up hope.

Most of his life was spent in and near Moline, Ill., except for the last few years which were spent at Fairfield. On Sept. 11, 1890, he was united in marriage to Miss Jessie CORBIN, at the home of her parents on a farm near Moline, Ill. She survives him. To this union were born five children, Mrs. Edith L. HICKS of Cincinnati, Ohio; Dean H. GOBEN of Moline, Ill.; Mrs. Flora SIRDOREUS, who lives on a farm southeast of Fairfield; Mrs. Mary M. KNEEN, who preceded him in death seven years ago, and Jessie who died in infancy. He also leaves three sisters and five brothers to mourn his loss. They are Mr. Albert GOBEN of Moline, Ill.; Mr. William GOBEN of Des Moines, Iowa; Mr. George GOBEN, Mr. John GOBEN, Mrs. Jennie SMITH, Mrs. Minnie CANNAM and Mrs. Viola CRESSEY, all of Milan, Ill., besides many other relatives and many friends which Mr. GOBEN made wherever he went.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at Hoskins funeral home in this city, and he was laid to rest in the lovely, peaceful Evergreen cemetery at this place.
