Clarence GLASS dies in Florida

Clarence GLASS, 89, former longtime resident of Fairfield, died at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Bay Pine V.A. Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Raymond Funeral Home following cremation.

While a resident of Fairfield, GLASS was employed by the Iowa Highway Commission, served as deputy sheriff of Jefferson County, and held high offices in fraternal and patriotic organizations.

He was born Jan. 25, 1895, in Hedrick. He was the son of David L. and Nettie R. PECK GLASS. He married Edith SENSE June 4, 1917, in Rock Island. She preceded him in death April 20, 1970. He later married Lois HARRIS who survives. He had made his home in Florida 20 years where he had been a member of the St. Paul Methodist Church at Largo.

He was a 68-year member of Clinton Lodge No. 15 AF&M (sic - AF & AM) in Fairfield, also a member of Royal Arch Chapter, Royal Select Masons, Knights Templer (sic - Templar) and KAABA Shrine Club. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge (sic - Aerie/Club) in Fairfield.

GLASS served as past grand standard bearer of Grand Commandery of Iowa, he served as past grand second guard of Grand Commandery. He was past state president of the Iowa Commandery Association.

He was a veteran of World War I and a past commander of the Fairfield World War I Veterans, and was past district commander of Ridgewood Commandery of Florida.

GLASS is survived by his widow; a daughter, Peggy PAYNE, Colorado Springs, Colo., three grandchildren; two sisters, Alice SHERWOOD and Lois FIELDS, both of Largo, Fla.

He was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
